Prosecution Support Specialist I – Investigative Accountant, Economic Crimes Division

Position Overview 

This individual will conduct analysis and audits of personal and business financial records, including payroll records, bank and investment accounts, credit card statements, wills and trusts documents, and property deeds to support investigations and prosecutions of financial exploitation.  Knowledge of criminal investigative techniques will be given special consideration.  Must possess knowledge of procedures and techniques of general accounting principles.  Individual will analyze financial transactions in order to accurately identify all parties involved in the criminal activity and input all researched and analyzed data into various professional products for statistical analysis data, intelligence summaries, and power point presentations for law enforcement use. This individual will likely be required to serve as a factual witness during prosecutions. The work schedule for this position is 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This position offers a Limited Flexible Work Schedule and Teleworking Option. 

 

The Job Responsibilities are:

  • Reviewing all initial information pertaining to a complaint to determine what documents are necessary to comprehensively investigate a criminal violation
  • Coordinating all aspects of the investigation with the ASA and making recommendations to the ASA with regard to evidence and possible charges
  • Preparing and processing Subpoena Duces Tecum for records
  • Providing research assistance as needed
  • Capturing data from documents, conducting analysis of the data and creating summaries/charts of the data as visual proof of crimes for presentation in court
  • Organizing and preparing evidence
  • Maintaining evidence logs
  • Attending depositions and appearing as a witness in Trial
  • Providing Assistant State Attorneys with Continuing updates on Investigations
  • Documenting investigative hours for purposes of cost recovery
  • Writing closeout reports when cases are completed
  • Researching case information by utilizing databases i.e., DAVID, CJIS, websites Clerk of Court, property searches, Sunbiz
  • Providing assistance with unit coverage, as well as, assisting Assistant State Attorneys as needed
  • Performing other related duties as assigned

 

The Minimum Requirements are:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration, provided the latter included fifteen (15) semester hours of accounting.
  • Experience in investigative accounting research
  • Related work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required college training or an equivalent combination of training and experience

 

The Preferred Qualifications and Skills are:

  • One to Two years of experience in accounting, auditing and/or fraud examination experience
  • Having experience or being familiar with the elements of crimes such as fraud, theft, embezzlement, false entries in business records, schemes to defraud, conflict of interest, corruption of public officials and various types of bank fraud
  • Having knowledge of C.F.I.S (Comprehensive Financial Investigative Solution) year

Yearly Salary Range: $36,190.32 to $58,092.00 (Salary to commensurate with experience)
