Legal Assistant II – Felony Divisions

Position Overview

The Legal Assistant II provides secretarial and caseload support for two (2) Assistant State Attorneys. The work schedule for this position is 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or 8:30am to 5:00pm (depending on assigned division, assigned trial support and Judge court room hours).  During initial training period the work schedule is 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  This position offers a Limited Flexible Work Schedule and Teleworking Option.

The Job Responsibilities are:

  •  Preparing daily court, supplemental and alias capias calendars
  • Processing court calendar returns
  • Preparing subpoenas, motions and orders
  • Ordering photos, body worn cam videos, police reports and other supporting documentation from additional agencies
  • Distributing and organizing incoming/outgoing mail
  • Completing requests for Assistant State Attorneys
  • Maintaining Database
  • Performing phone work and having contact with the public and law enforcement personnel
  • Performing other related duties as assigned

 

Progressive Legal Assistant III Responsibilities include all expectations of a Legal Assistant II with the following additions:

  • Providing Homicide Trial Support with active participation in the court room
  • Preparing trial availabilities
  • Witness coordination
  • Conducting extensive phone work and having contact with the public and law enforcement personnel
  • Coordinating travel arrangements for Division Chiefs, Expert Witnesses and Civilian Witnesses
  • Flexibility when preparing for trial, during trial or important hearings

The Minimum Requirements are:

  •  One (1) year clerical experience*
  • High School Diploma or its equivalent

The Preferred Qualifications and Skills are:

  •  Fluency in English and Spanish

 Annual Salary: $33,810.12

* After successfully completing a six (6) month probationary period with a “4” or a “5” rating on their performance evaluation, the selected candidate may be eligible for a promotion to a Legal Assistant III classification with a 5% pay increase.
