Position Overview

The Human Resource Specialist I is committed to providing excellent service to all SAO employees and the public and maintains an open line of communication by assisting with the hiring and exiting processes, payroll orientation, benefits, and safety and wellness. The work schedule for this position is 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Job Responsibilities are:

  • Reviewing and processing weekly leave requests and monthly timesheet submissions
  • Processing all assigned payroll transactions
  • Processing leaves of absence
  • Meeting with New Hires and going through the payroll process and providing all benefit information
  • Assisting staff as they prepare to exit their employment
  • Assisting staff with the retirement process
  • Assisting with Workers’ Compensation claims
  • Conducting extensive phone and email contact with staff and the public
  • Assisting staff with questions/concerns – gathering facts and evaluating the solutions and ensuring the concerns are resolved expeditiously
  • Drafting and composing correspondence
  • Providing excellent customer service at all times
  • Updating all necessary databases
  • Performing other related duties as assigned

The Minimum Requirements are:

  • High School Diploma or its equivalent
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible clerical experience
  • Successful completion of a Skills Test

The Preferred Qualifications and Skills are:

  •  Working knowledge of personnel processes
  • Having worked in a Human Resource Department

  • Work independently and be supportive in a team environment
  • Effectively handle stressful situations on a daily basis
  • Possess and demonstrate great analytical skills
  • Possess and demonstrate significant knowledge of computer programs
  • Possess and demonstrate very good verbal and written communication skills
  • Possess and demonstrate excellent organizational skills
  • Possess and demonstrate excellent customer service and interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively with all levels of staff and outside agencies

Starting Annual Salary:  $37,346.40
