  1. Be wary of new accounts.
  2. Obtain a complete street address if the check has no street address listed or only has a P.O. Box listed. Write the street address on the face of the check.
  3. Verify the phone number.
  4. Make sure the check is signed in your presence and verify the signature affixed on the check matches the signature on the check writer’s I.D.
  5. Make sure the dollar figure and written amount match.
  6. Make sure the check is dated on the date it is issued. Post-dated checks and checks that you are asked to hold are not eligible for the Program and cannot be prosecuted.
