Legal Internships:
Child Support Program

The Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office has volunteer positions for law students in our Child Support Enforcement Division.  Students may also intern for school credit or receive grant awards.  We do not match work study grants.

These positions involve working as a clerk for an Assistant State Attorney on a part-time (minimum 20 hours) or full-time basis for a minimum of 10 weeks. Duties of student interns may include legal research and assisting in the drafting of special motions and memoranda of law.  Interns will also observe, assist, and gain exposure to various aspects of the Title IV-D Child Support Enforcement Program beginning with initial intake interviews and review of cases through interview with child support litigants immediately prior to the support hearing.  Interns will attend court proceedings before General Magistrates and Family Court judges. Students who have completed their second year of law school and are participating in their law school’s Clinical Program will be certified to speak in court.  They will be able to handle child support cases under the supervision of an attorney.

To apply for volunteer positions, request an application from Recruitment Coordinator Thomas Bowman at (305) 547-0565 or [email protected].  To apply for clinical placement, contact your Clinical Director.

All applicants are subject to a criminal background check and clearance prior to acceptance.
