Miami (January 14, 2023)

Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle announces the arrest of 19-year-old Joshua Von Reed for his alleged involvement in a series of residential burglaries perpetrated throughout Miami-Dade County targeting the owners of high-end motor vehicles. The stolen vehicles were allegedly taken from the owners homes, often from inside the owners’ garages while the residents slept, and then taken into Broward County to be sold. The charged thefts targeted homes in South Miami, City of Miami, Coral Gables, Miami-Dade County, North Miami, and Pine Crest.

Reed allegedly wore a court ordered ankle monitor throughout the series of burglaries as a part of his pre-trial release from the Broward County jail system. In general, the early morning burglaries would involve individuals arriving by car at the targeted residences, gaining access to the property and/or to the garages and then quickly driving the stolen vehicle north into Broward County. By the time the homeowners were able to respond, the vehicles had already fled the premises. The electronic tracking supplied by the ankle monitor allegedly placed Reed at the scene of the eight (8) cases presently charged. Continued evidence evaluation may yield additional charges. At this time Joshua Von Reed is primarily charged with:

• 10 counts of Burglary (Occupied & Unoccupied)
• 8 counts of Grand Theft (including with a weapon)

“The resolution of this series of burglaries and car thefts again shows the investigative power of police interagency cooperation with the Broward Sheriff’s Office working with the police departments of South Miami, City of Miami, Coral Gables, Miami-Dade County, North Miami, and Pine Crest not only to solve the crimes but working together in attempts to recover the stolen vehicles,” commentated State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle. “The residents of our community deserve to know that they can sleep soundly in their beds without fear of victimization.”
