Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle and Miami Beach Police Chief Richard Clements announce the arrest of 68-year-old Jeffrey David Kamlet by members of the State Attorney’s Human Trafficking Task Force and the Miami Beach Police Department on a variety of human trafficking related charges as a part of his alleged involvement with two underage teenage girls ages 17 and 16. Kamlet is also alleged to have supplied the victim with whom he had solicitated and purchased sex via the internet site Tinder, with controlled substances.
“As I have said before, we, in law enforcement, always need a million community eyes and ears working to help end the trafficking of our children. A mother’s fear for the well-being of her daughter helped expose the alleged illegal activities of an individual who may have felt that his wealth and prominence gave him license to do anything,” said State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle. “He was wrong. This arrest is another sad example of how easily our children can be targeted for use and abuse. I am proud of the superb work done by the Miami Beach Police Department and the members of my Human Trafficking Task Force as they work to stop those who feel they have a right to abuse our children.”
Kamlet is presently charged with:
• 1 Count Human Trafficking for Commercial Sexual Activity
• 1 Count Solicitation of a Child via Cellphone to Commit an Unlawful Sex Act
• 2 Counts Unlawful Sexual Activity with a Minor
• 2 Counts Delivery of a Controlled Substance
• 2 Counts Interference with Custody of a Child
The activities which have led to Kamet’s charging occurred between April 27, 2022 and August 3, 2022. The 17-year-old girl’s mother had contacted the Broward Sheriff’s Office about her missing daughter and the daughter’s missing 16-year-old friend whom the mother had tracked via the girl’s iPhone to a Miami Beach condominium address. The Broward Sheriff’s Office then contacted the Miami Beach Police department seeking assistance.
Miami Beach Police responded, contacting Kamlet at the apartment address. On police video, Kamlet told the officers the girls had wanted to stay the night with him to escape from a black man with a gun who was trying to prostitute them. When asked, Kamlet told the officers that he had met the girls on Tinder and that they were 18, having shown Kamlet some identification. Upon speaking with the police officers, the 2 girls indicated a lack of any identification. Miami Beach officers told Kamlet that the girls, as minors, would be taken to headquarters and returned to their parents. During a later police interview process, sexual contact with Kamlet was described in detail.
After the police recovered the missing girls from his apartment, Kamlet and the 17-year-old girl continued contact via social media apps. Kamlet again solicited and purchased sex from this minor victim, taking her back to his condominium. Upon arrival at the condominium, Kamlet allegedly provided the girl with cocaine and the sexual contact ensued.
