Miami (April 22, 2024)

Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle, City of Hialeah Police Chief George Fuente, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and the Secret Service announce the arrests of 32-year-old Juan Carlos Vasquez-Lugo and 28-year-old Luisa Alexandra Diaz Yanez as a part of an undercover operation called “Operation Fast Money”. The operation was specifically designed to target those allegedly deriving financial support from the proceeds of prostitution and to identify and assist adult and juvenile victims of human trafficking with services.

“Those who think that selling women for sex is a viable business opportunity should deliberate long before they come to Miami-Dade County,” said State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle. “The agencies involved in fighting Human Trafficking, the Hialeah Police Department, members of my Human Trafficking Task Force, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and the Secret Service all want human traffickers to know that Miami-Dade County is not going to tolerate the business of modern-day slavery in our community. Not in our town!”

Undercover investigators used an online website to view advertisements for offering services within Miami-Dade County. Investigators had information that the advertisements on this website are well known as solicitation fronts for prostitution. Vasquez-Lugo and Diaz Yanez responded to the telephone contacts, negotiated for pre-agreed sex acts in exchange for money. Interviews indicated that the charged defendants would allegedly split the payments with the involved women.

Juan Carlos Vasquez-Lugo is being charged with:

• 1 Count Deriving Support for the Proceeds of Prostitution
• 1 Count Transporting for the Purposes of Prostitution
• 1 Count Possession of Fraudulent Identification

Luisa Alexandra Diaz Yanez is being charged with:

• 1 Count Deriving Support for the Proceeds of Prostitution,
• 1 Count Transporting for the Purposes of Prostitution
