Miami-Style Smart Justice Disparities in the Community

Research suggests that individuals who experience trauma or poverty, live in a disadvantaged neighborhood, and/or lack housing, health, educational, and occupational opportunities may be more likely to commit crimes.

Data also demonstrates that occupation, income, neighborhood, and race also influence victimization.  See e.g. Zebib, L., Stoler, J., and Zakrison, T., Geo-demographics of gunshot injuries in Miami-Dade county,
2002-2012,
BMC Public Health Open Access (2017).

Survey data reveals significant disparities in various groups’ socio-economic and geographic status across multiple critical indicators.
