Paralegal Specialist III – Elderly & Vulnerable Abuse Unit

Location:  River Landing

                  1400 N.W. North River Drive

                  Miami, FL 33125

Position Overview:

This Paralegal Specialist III in the Elderly & Vulnerable Abuse Unit will handle complex, sensitive and confidential assignments, work closely with the ASA and a team of SAO Investigators and task force officers. This position is responsible for working on investigations from the initial intake report, through the investigative process, and the final disposition of the case, as well as maintaining and tracking all investigations in the unit.  The work schedule for this position is: 8:30a.m. to 5:00p.m. 

The Job Responsibilities are:

  • Conducting legal research
  • Assisting ASA’s and Investigators with Arrest Warrants
  • Preparing and processing duces tecum subpoenas
  • Examining legal instruments or other documents to insure completeness of information and conformance to pertinent laws, rules, regulations, precedents, or requirements
  • Reviewing financial and medical records
  • Maintaining and processing the Economic Crimes Unit mailbox
  • Processing incoming complaints to be forwarded to the Deputy Chief Assistant for review  
  • Maintaining, updating, and reporting statistical data in excel spreadsheets
  • Assisting in case preparation for trials or other hearings
  • Performing DAVID, Accurint, and FCIC computer searches
  • Providing coverage for other staff in the Unit
  • Performing other related duties as assigned

The Minimum requirements are:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years’ experience working as a Paralegal, Victim Witness Specialist, Case Analyst, Legal Assistant (Trial Coordinator), or
  • Associate Degree and four (4) years’ experience working as a Paralegal, Victim Witness Specialist, Case Analyst, Legal Assistant (Trial Coordinator), or
  • Successful completion of a two (2) year paralegal program and four (4) years’ experience as a Paralegal, Victim Witness Specialist, Case Analyst, Legal Assistant (Trial Coordinator), or
  • Six (6) years of equivalent combination of education and work experience working as a Paralegal, Victim Witness Specialist, Case Analyst, Legal Assistant (Trial Coordinator)

Preferred Qualification and Skills are:

  •  Being fluent in English and Spanish

Starting Annual Salary: $41,339.16
*Note:  Please be advised the starting salary for this position is non-negotiable.
