Legal Assistant II – County Court

Position Overview: The Legal Assistant II in the Traffic/Crimes Division of County Court provides secretarial and caseload support for three (3) to four (4) Assistant State Attorneys. Due to the high volume of cases processed in County Court from arrest through disposition and the 90-day speedy trial period, we have a limited amount of time to handle a caseload of approximately 100 cases each week for arraignment and trial. The work schedule for this position is 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (depending on assigned division).

  • Preparing Misdemeanor or Traffic cases for either a Central or Branch division
  • Creating electronic case files
  • Processing arraignments, motions, reports, trials, probation violation hearings
  • Processing daily calendars, discovery, arrest affidavits, body worn cam videos and police reports and any additional supporting documents
  • Updating witnesses in Hydra/Tis
  • Processing a high volume of faxed documents and mail
  • Locating files for the assigned ASAs to review within 24 to 48 hours of receipt
  • Setting all pre-trial conferences for the assigned ASAs
  • Completing ASA requests
  • Handling numerous incoming and outgoing telephone calls from defense attorneys, police agencies, victims/witnesses and other outside agencies
  • Providing back-up support to other Legal Assistants throughout the Division
  • Performing other related duties as assigned

The Minimum Requirements are:

  • High School Diploma or its equivalent
  • Two (2) years clerical experience
  • Successful completion of a Skills Test

The Preferred Qualifications and Skills are:

  • Being fluent in English and Spanish

Starting Annual Salary: $25,211.12
