The State Attorney-Showcases Merits of Miami-Style Smart Justice at South Miami Kendall Bar Association Meeting

Miami, Fla (November 23, 2020)Â â Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle recently spoke to members of the South Miami Kendall Bar Association about her âMiami-Style Smart Justiceâ approach to crime. Her presentation showcased how the Office of the State Attorneyâs (Miami SAO) âSmart Justiceâ approach helps reduce recidivism and incarceration costs. She also highlighted how Miami SAO promotes safety by focusing on incarcerating criminals who commit the most severe crimes.
âBeing tough on crime makes for a great sound bite,â said State Attorney Fernandez Rundle. âBut it is far better to be smart, strategic, responsible, and compassionate when addressing it.â
The State Attorneyâs insights on her âSmart Justiceâ approach have been published in Prosecutor Magazine, the Justice Evaluation Journal, and the Center on Media, Crime, and Justice. Through the Florida Bar, the Florida Supreme Court requires its members to complete 33 hours of continuing education over a 3-year period. State Attorney Fernandez Rundleâs presentation counted towards that requirement.
