Paralegal Specialist III – M.O.V.E.S. Program

Position Overview

The Paralegal III in the Mobile Operations Victim Emergency Services (M.O.V.E.S.) Program works off-site and is responsible for conducting pre-file conferences of victims, witnesses and police officers on Misdemeanor and Felony domestic violence cases and assessing the needs of the victim. These statements are taken after normal business hours, weekends and holidays at police departments, victims’ homes or hospitals. Candidates will be responding to the City of Miami Gardens, Town of Miami Lakes, Opa-Locka, North Miami Beach, Biscayne Park, Virginia Gardens, and the Northwest, Northside, and Intracoastal Districts of Miami-Dade. The work schedule for this position is:  Working an on-call shift from 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. (Monday through Friday) and 24 hours on weekends and holidays and must work during regular business hours (8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) at least one week out of each month at the Courthouse Center, Misdemeanor Domestic Violence Unit.

 The Job Responsibilities are:

  •  Taking sworn statements of victims, witnesses and police officers
  • Taking photographs of victims’ injuries
  • Assessing victims’ needs and providing information regarding their rights as a victim of crime and Crimes Compensation
  • Completing a Victim Assessment form in Hydra
  • Coordinating emergency shelter for the victim
  • Conducting roll calls at various police departments to inform police officers about the program
  • Performing other related duties as assigned

 The Minimum Requirements are:

  •  Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years’ experience as a Paralegal, Victim Witness Counselor, Case Analyst, Legal Secretary (Trial Coordinator), or
  • Associate Degree and four (4) years’ experience as a Paralegal, Victim Witness Counselor, Case Analyst, Legal Secretary (Trial Coordinator), or
  • Successful completion of a two (2) year paralegal program and four (4) years’ experience as a Paralegal, Victim Witness Counselor, Case Analyst, Legal Secretary (Trial Coordinator), or
  • Six (6) years of equivalent combination of education and work experience as a Paralegal, Victim Witness Counselor, Case Analyst, Legal Secretary (Trial Coordinator)
  • Must possess a valid and current Florida Drivers’ License, automobile insurance coverage and have a very good driving record
  • Must reside within 20 miles of the designated areas

 The Preferred Qualifications and Skills are:

  •  Being fluent in English and Spanish
  • Prior work experience with victims of crime

  • Use their personal vehicle and will be compensated at .445 cents per mile

Starting Annual Salary: $41,491.20 (this includes a pay differential that would be removed if selected candidate moved out of the position).
