Position Overview: 

The Paralegal Specialist III reviews and analyzes arrest affidavits to make appropriate filing and charging decisions.  In addition, this position also supports Assistant State Attorneys to gather all evidentiary information on an ongoing basis. This is a “floating” position.  The candidate must be flexible and able to work varied shifts between the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

 The Job Responsibilities are:

  • Having a full time PFC calendar of appointments in order to take testimony from victims, witnesses, and officers
  • Analyzing arrest affidavits, conducting prefiling conferences, gathering information and evidence to determine appropriate filing and charging decisions
  • Assisting Assistant State Attorneys in gathering additional evidence
  • Making recommendations for adding, reducing, or no-action of charges
  • Occasionally providing back-up coverage for the South Dade Government Center branch office as necessary
  • Performing other related duties as assigned

The Minimum Requirements are:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, and two (2) years’ experience as a Paralegal Specialist, Victim Witness Specialist, Legal Assistant II (Trial Coordinator), or
  • Associate Degree and four (4) years’ experience as a Paralegal Specialist, Victim Witness Specialist, Legal Assistant II (Trial Coordinator), or
  • Successful completion of a two (2) year paralegal program and four (4) years’ experience as a Paralegal Specialist, Victim Witness Specialist, Legal Assistant II (Trial Coordinator), or
  • Six (6) years equivalent combination of education and work experience working as a Paralegal Specialist, Victim Witness Specialist, Legal Assistant II (Trial Coordinator)

The Preferred Qualifications and Skills are:

  • Being fluent in English and Spanish or English and Creole
  • Having experience in the Felony Screening Unit
  • Having direct work experience with Hydra
  • Being familiar with search and seizure

Starting Annual Salary:  $35,568.00
