Community Outreach Program Representative Angie Fernandez has been serving the Miami area for over 10 years, creating awareness on this issue and sharing information regarding the new tricks that identity thieves are using to prey on seniors.

During a presentation at the Dr. Armando Badia Senior Center in Miami, a handout containing a checklist on what to do in case your identity has been compromised was distributed to the attendees.

State Attorney Fernandez Rundle Convenes CJRC’s Police Reform and Community-Police Relations Committee Meeting

Miami, Fla. (June 10, 2021) – Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle welcomed residents, advocates, public officials, and subject-matter experts to a meeting of the Community-Police Relations Committee of her Continuing Justice Reform Commission (CJRC). The State Attorney commissioned CJRC to identify and develop ways to improve our criminal justice system and better protect our community.  She created the Community-Police Reform Committee to cultivate policing solutions that enhance public safety while promoting fairness and equity in law enforcement and building bridges between the general public and those sworn to protect them.

“We are committed to delivering the safety and protection residents deserve,” said State Attorney Fernandez Rundle. “We are thrilled to create opportunities where victims and witnesses, scholars and experts, and police and prosecutors can come together to enhance our quality of life. Our community wins when we unify.”

The two-hour convening included presentations from local police, clergy, scholars, and community members. Additionally, attendees heard victims, and the concerned residents shared their experiences, perspectives, and solutions.

State Attorney Fernandez Rundle Addresses Florida Bar’s “Pandemic in the Criminal Justice System: Are We Better or Worse Off?” Panel

State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle virtually addressed a panel hosted by the Florida Bar titled “Pandemic in the Criminal Justice System: Are We Better or Worse Off?”..

Attendees included state prosecutors, public defenders, attorneys, and judges serving throughout Florida. The State Attorney revealed insights into how her office administered justice during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. 

“It always is great to connect with my colleagues to share ways we can best serve and protect our communities,” commented State Attorney Fernandez Rundle. “Our criminal justice system partners from the judiciary, municipal police departments, and our county’s corrections department were incredible during the pandemic. Our collaboration helped us execute nearly 25,000 pre-filings, 47,000 county and circuit hearings, and service more than 40,000 virtual conference calls. Additionally, my office used this time aggressively to transition to paperless operations which have improved access and increased efficiency.”

Miami, Florida (April 8, 2021) – Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle virtually addressed a cadre of community leaders and residents during The Women’s Fund of Miami-Dade’s “Power of the Purse” event.

The State Attorney shared insights on the SAO’s nationally acclaimed Human Trafficking Unit and Task Force, her innovative approaches to address domestic violence, and snapshots on how our office has continued to provide services during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The virtual forum attracted hundreds of attendees from a cross-section of Miami-Dade County. Officials, corporate, and civic leaders united to share best practices in creating a positive impact for women and girls. A championship agency in our community, The Women’s Fund of Miami-Dade formally recognized State AttorneyFernandez Rundle’s service to Miami-Dade County with an award in 2018.
