Miami (October 30, 2020) – Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle recently joined Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez, Miami-Dade County Commission Chairwoman Audrey M. Edmonson, U.S. Representative Mario Diaz-Balart, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Regional Administrator for Region IV Denise Cleveland-Leggett and other community leaders, for a grand opening ceremony to celebrate the completion of the second phase of the Liberty Rising development in Miami’s Liberty City community.

“Liberty City is truly rising. We are celebrating a new approach, a new perspective, and a new vision. It is a new day in Miami-Dade County,” said State Attorney Fernandez Rundle.

“This grand opening is a true message of commitment by U.S. HUD Secretary Ben Carson, Miami-Dade County government, and private sector partners to develop affordable housing that gives housing authorities flexibility to care for their vulnerable populations.”

For more than 30 years, State Attorney Fernandez Rundle has demonstrated a long-standing commitment to bringing positive change to residents of Miami-Dade County’s public housing sites, including lawsuits against Dade County and taking the issue to the Miami-Dade County Grand Jury.

“As State Attorney, I have long recognized that there is a strong connection between substandard housing and incidents of violent crime. Substandard housing impacts our entire community.”
