Miami, Fla (November 23, 2020) – Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle recently spoke to members of the South Miami Kendall Bar Association about her “Miami-Style Smart Justice” approach to crime. Her presentation showcased how the Office of the State Attorney’s (Miami SAO) ‘Smart Justice’ approach helps reduce recidivism and incarceration costs. She also highlighted how Miami SAO promotes safety by focusing on incarcerating criminals who commit the most severe crimes.

“Being tough on crime makes for a great sound bite,” said State Attorney Fernandez Rundle. “But it is far better to be smart, strategic, responsible, and compassionate when addressing it.”

The State Attorney’s insights on her “Smart Justice” approach have been published in Prosecutor Magazine, the Justice Evaluation Journal, and the Center on Media, Crime, and Justice.  Through the Florida Bar, the Florida Supreme Court requires its members to complete 33 hours of continuing education over a 3-year period. State Attorney Fernandez Rundle’s presentation counted towards that requirement.
